Sustainability is the defining issue of our time and a central goal in the realisation of BUWOG’s residential projects. Living sustainably means happy living, which is why Austria’s most active private developer focuses on resource-conserving construction methods and minimising land consumption, as well as on sustainable energy supply and open-space design.

Sustainability and climate protection are a central corporate aim for BUWOG and a valuable part of its corporate culture. Environmentally conscious and activity oriented towards the future have priority in every agenda of Austria's most active private property developer. “The building sector is the second largest producer of environmentally harmful emissions. This, of course, results in an enormous responsibility for us,” says Andreas Holler, managing director of BUWOG Group GmbH. BUWOG is the only Austrian real estate company that is part of the klimaakiv pact, and every new building also exceeds the specifications for energy efficiency. “We continuously invest in thermal rehabilitation, sustainable energy sources such as geothermal energy and photovoltaics are basically standard, and most new buildings have external environmental certifications. We build on sustainability and have quite substantial experience with it,” Holler says. With its showcase environmental projects, BUWOG proves that successful business and sustainable living go hand in hand.

HELIO Tower – residential living with an extensive mobility plan
The property is a central part of the urban development area “The Marks” on the former MGC Plaza site in Vienna’s third district. During construction, special emphasis was placed on sustainability. The residential tower is impressive not only because of its smart planning – the building has a highly effective cooling system and district heating – but also because of its well thought-out mobility plan: In a bicycle arcade that is unparalleled in Austria, there is space for2,000 bicycles site-wide. A car-sharing model with electric cars as well as city bikes and electric cargo bicycles also ensure an easily accessible range of environmentally friendly mobility across all buildings. In addition, up to 27 charging stations with intelligent load management are available in the BUWOG car park area alone.

Kennedy Garden: green living by Schönbrunn
BUWOG’s current environmental showcase project is the Kennedy Garden development in Penzinger Straße in Vienna's 14th district, which has been awarded the “Greenpass” certificate. Its green ambience imparts a basically park-like feel. More than 500 condominiums and rental apartments are being built on the former industrial property in six attractively designed sections. Once completed, they will offer the comfort of modern living and the great fortune of having a garden in the midst of the city. Reducing soil sealing by around 600 square metres will create additional green areas, which will have a positive effect on the microclimate. Extensive deep drilling and photovoltaics will ensure a considerable share of renewable energy, and the location directly by the underground and suburban railway will facilitate climate-friendly, urban mobility. Kennedy Garden is not only a haven of peace and retreat, but also a recreational area in a prime location, surrounded by a wide array of infrastructure, numerous transport links and jewels such as Schönbrun Palace.
